Event Description

Dockyard Meet Up: Wii Are the Champions

Wii are the Champions is the first in a series of events bringing together digital practitioners from the Digital Dockyard networking site and beyond. The first event will take place at the Black Swan Bar at Newcastle Arts Centre on Wednesday 29 July.

At the heart of the event is a fun-filled but competitive team tournament in which teams of up to five members will compete against each other at selected games from the Wii sports package. There will be places for ten teams, one of which will be a wild card made up of individual competitors on the evening. The eventual victors will be crowned ‘Wii Team of the Year’ and rewarded with boundless kudos and also some manner of low-quality trophy.

If you’re not the competitive type you’re welcome to come along as a spectator and watch the games or just chat with people over a drink. The evening will also be jollied-up with a bar and music.

Uniting dockyard practitioners and companies with other local groups, businesses and organisations, the event is a chance to network and meet people you maybe have only known virtually – to put flesh on the avatar. This event has been organised by members of the Digital Dockyard and you will have the chance to put forward any ideas you have for meet-ups in the future.

Where: Black Swan Bar, Newcastle Arts Centre, 67 Westgate Road, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, NE1 1SG. (Click here for a map.)

When: Wednesday 29 July, Doors 7.00pm – Late
Games start at 7.30pm and winner announced at 10.15pm

If you are attending CloudCamp at Newcastle Uni and would like to join the event for post game drinks NFM will be sponsoring a bus from Cloud Camp to the Black Swan at 9.30pm.

RSVP: To submit a team please email us at events@northernmedia.org including a team name, your organisation or company (if applicable), and team members’ names. If you want to come along as a spectator please also rsvp to events@northernmedia.org

So, come on – take up the Wii remote and show us what you've got!!
