With the backing of the creative media sector skills council Skillset, Teesside University is running a series of workshops and master classes as part of the Sustain Programme funded by One North East. These are aimed at recent entrants, freelancers and professionals working in the creative media industry.
The next event in this series is Raising Finance – a seminar hosted by some of the biggest players in the British film, TV and broadcasting industries, who between them are credited with producing, directing, devising writing and distributing thousands of hours of film, television and other content.
• Mick Southworth - Managing Director, The Works Distribution UK
• Jules Fuller - Head of Special Projects at Initial, a division of Endemol UK
• Victor Glynn - feature film and TV Producer
• Steve Matthews – Head of Development, Size 9 Productions
• John Paul Chapple, Producer and screenwriter
• Ben Freeman – Executive Producer, Digital ETV
The aim of the seminar is to present participants with a broad view of funding opportunities for UK-based production companies, producers and creatives. It will deliver a high level of practical information and guidance from a number of high profile speakers who have experience in most sectors of the industry. There will be a particular emphasis on identifying, developing and presenting the kinds of ideas that are likely to attract funding.
The event will demonstrate, in a cross platform environment, a general awareness of the wider picture, helping participants to structure business plans and make strategic decisions.
The speakers will discuss specific funding models and talk about how successful (or unsuccessful) they were, offering an in-depth perspective on particular sectors and sharing their views on how the industry is changing and likely to look in the future.
All six speakers will be supported by example presentations of relevant productions and there will be an opportunity for Q & A, as well as speaking individually to them during the day.
The Raising Finance Seminar takes place in Teesside University’s OL1 lecture theatre on Wednesday 5th August from 9.30am – 4.30pm. Refreshments and lunch will be provided.
