Online Content Manager, Tyneside Cinema
Background Information and Scope
Almost two years ago, Tyneside Cinema completed its redevelopment programme and opened
its doors as a beautiful three screen venue, heritage attraction and social space for a whole
range of communities to watch, learn and play. During this time, over 600,000 people have
crossed the threshold to enjoy our programmes, events and activities. Now that the building
is fixed, we are now turning our attention to the redevelopment of our online presence.
We want to build a new website that will be more dynamic, host more content in different
formats, support new ways of engaging with our growing communities and increase traffic
and sales. We are putting together a team with specialist skills and knowledge to help us
to do this and have already engaged a designer, web producer and developer as well as a
usability consultant.
The Online Content Manager is integral to the successful build of the Tyneside Cinema website.
We are looking for a smart, highly motivated individual who is passionate about the online
world and creating quality user experiences. With excellent writing and editing skills, you will
review and rewrite existing content to ensure engaging editorial. Your business skills and
online marketing experience will help us to understand and identify partners, maximize sales
and business opportunities.
Fee: £5,750
January – March 2010

Main Tasks
> Work with Tyneside Cinema Senior Management Team, Web Development, Design and
Usability Consultants to select existing Tyneside Cinema content to be utilised and to
scope out range of new content required.
> Trace and audit all existing Tyneside Cinema content and supply to development team
in suitable formats.
> Research, identify and evaluate sources of new original content from: existing content,
media sources, links, possible affiliate traders, co-promoters, advertisers and pursue
and secure deals.
> Write original copy in house style as required for all aspects of new site and strengthen
branding via differentiated tone of voice and added value content.
> Revise copy as required following launch of new site.
> Audit current Tyneside Cinema human resources and report on structure to support future
online projects.
> Handover to Tyneside Cinema team.
Essential Skills and Experience
> Relevant work experience.
> Experience of promoting and marketing products.
> Experience of working for a commercial site.
> Ability to write clear, accurate and engaging copy.
> Detail-oriented and well organized.
> High levels of computer literacy and web skills.
> Experienced in using a variety of Social Media.
> Ability to communicate well with people from both non-technical and technical backgrounds.
> Content Management Systems experience.
Desirable Skills
> Experience of dealing with moving image and sound content online.
> Working knowledge of HTML.
> Image manipulation.
