CHANNEL 4 digital media commissioner Ewan McIntosh is joining the ranks of Northern Film and Media – a first for a regional screen agency in the UK.
Through his new venture, NoTosh Ltd, McIntosh will join the NFM team helping to develop the digital media sector in the North East by investing in and supporting companies from January 2010.
McIntosh was 4iP’s first recruit 18 months ago and, since then, has gone on to help shape the £50m innovation fund for public sector broadcaster Channel 4, turning Letters of Intent into more than £1m of realinvestment in digital media companies in Northern Ireland, Scotland and the North East.
He is one of Europe’s foremost experts in digital media for public service, particularly in education.
His role at Northern Film and Media will involve developing the agency’s digital strategy and working closely with creative companies and individuals in this sector both inside and out of the region, capitalising on the North East’s strong position and moving it on to a more significant commercial level.
Ewan McIntosh said: “Northern Film and Media is one of the foremost companies making timely investment and real, hands-on practical support available to the people that need it, at the time they need it. As I’m dedicated to helping young start-ups and more established talent develop their ideas in an ever-evolving digital space, I couldn’t ask for a more enthusiastic and vibrant company to work with as NoTosh launches into this space.”
Northern Film and Media chief executive Tom Harvey said: “We are absolutely delighted to have attracted someone of Ewan’s calibre to the team.
“The digital media agenda remains key for NFM and the North East and Ewan’s experience in delivering one of the biggest and most exciting calls-to-action for new and emergent digital media companies in the UK at 4iP will be a fantastic addition to the agency.”
McIntosh is also the founder of 38minutes.co.uk, the creative industries platform for the North of the UK.
His understanding and application of the latest web, mobile and games technology also continues to influence policy and practice in the world of education, an area in which his new company will continue to grow.
